How to annotate your screen on a Mac

  1. Install Pointly free from the Mac App Store.
  2. Press ⌘⇧P to bring up the transparent overlay over whatever's on screen.
  3. Pick a tool — pen, highlighter, arrow, shape, or text — and draw directly on screen.
  4. Guide attention with spotlight, laser pointer, or zoom; then clear or export when you're done.

Every annotation tool you need

Draw over any app, without leaving it

Pointly floats a transparent canvas on top of your desktop, so you can annotate a browser, Keynote, a design file, a terminal, or a video call without switching windows. Toggle it on and off instantly with a global hotkey, and switch to interact mode to click through to the app underneath whenever you need to.

Free, with an optional Pro upgrade

Core annotation — pen, highlighter, marker, text, arrows, shapes, and export — is free forever, no account needed. Pro tools like Laser Pointer, Spotlight, Blur Brush, Cut & Move, Presenter Zoom, and the Whiteboard Canvas unlock for €12.99/year or €39.99 lifetime.
